Groundbreaking Study Reveals Real-World Trends in Cloud Technology Adoption, Spend and Usage
Announcing our data-backed cloud industry report, the "State of the Cloud 2018" – a real-world study that analyzed data from over 1,500 companies representing $5 billion in cloud spend, 75 billion data points, 3 billion CPU hours and 700M unique compute resources.
“The cloud is something that is a profoundly big change, quite literally serving as one of the underpinnings of the fourth industrial revolution. Yet we realized that as we’ve watched the cloud grow, there have been few extensive real-world studies that pinpoint where cloud is and where it’s heading,”said Erik Onnen, CTO, Cloudability.
Major study findings include:
- Out of hundreds of cloud services, only four account for the majority (85% of spend).
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), with 58% market share; Amazon Elastic Block Store, with 9.9% market share; Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), with 9.3% market share; and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), with 6.3% market share.
- Standard compute families are still king.
43% of companies continue to provision most of their compute workloads on standard AWS instances, such as T1, T2, M3, M4 and M5.
- Serverless computing continues to see rapid growth.
Serverless growth across AWS Lambda and Azure functions continues to be rapid.
